Who doesn’t dwell in a state, which is doing really well in every aspect of living conditions of tis people? West Bengal does it! Hence there is no doubt regarding, as many aspiring people to live in the state!
West Bengal is known for many things, both positive and negative facts. The positive facts comprises of vast agricultural landscape, enabling the state to score in terms of agricultural products, versatile choices of education available to the students, especially the standard of education is quite higher and richer, as for many years West Bengal represented the British capital in India, owning the largest commercial city in the country, namely Kolkata, likewise there are many positive facts about the state, besides there are also some negative points about West Bengal, which cannot be ignored, such as political imbalance, economically backward areas/cities in the state, no proper law maintenance, etc…
The rapid industrialization process that took place in the Kolkata, which is the largest city and commercial hub of West Bengal is one of the prominent reasons for the state to shine as the third largest economy state in the country, accounting to more than 7.8% of the national GDP growth in the year 2002. Other factors boosting the economic conditions of West Bengal would be agricultural development in the state, industrial enhancements, especially the growth of small scale industries, infrastructure development, due to tremendous growth of IT industries in Kolkata, etc…
The major occupation of the state would be agriculture, especially the rice growing occupation. Further other food crops such as, tobacco, potatoes, sugarcane, oil seeds and many more also accounts to the growth of the state’s economic condition, besides the occupation of the cash crop, namely jute, which yields more income to the state. In spite of all these occupations and industrial development, still there are significant parts of the state, such as, Darjeeling, north and south Dinajpur, Sundarbans area, and many more are affected by poor economic conditions and they still lay behind the positive economic growth and life conditions and such areas depend on the central government, even for basic amenities, especially for their demands of food. This is not a good sign for the growth of West Bengal, in fact for any state for that matter! Hence, both central and state government should take some serious steps to solve such basic living conditions in order to retain a strong economic foundation in the state.
The state is quite strong in the education sector, as it owns the standard institutions that are of national importance, such as the IIM, Kolkata (the first IIM in the country), IIT, Kharagpur (the first IIT in the country), Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Indian Statistical Institute, National Institute of Technology, etc… further, the University of Calcutta is known as the oldest and largest public university in India. The school education have also been given equal importance and also provided with various choices with an objective to comfort students from different levels of backgrounds and also enhancing a standard quality education in the state. Thus, most of the secondary education schools are affiliated with CBSE, Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), the National Institute of Open School (NIOS), West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, etc… Thus, the students are left with various choices in selecting their type of school education…
